The multi-point stretch forming process of spherical surface parts of aluminum alloy sheet metal with conventional clamp mode and the flexible clamp mode with different transition region were simulated by an explicit finite element software. The stress and strain of forming parts with different clamp modes were comparatively analyzed. The numerical simulation results show that the stress and strain distribution of forming part with the flexible clamp mode is well-proportioned
its forming quality gets better than that with conventional clamp equipment
and the material utilization is improved. A corresponding stretch forming test was conducted to verify the flexibility and feasibility of the flexible clamp mode for multi-point stretch forming process.
