An image registration algorithm based on template matching is presented in view of the conventional methods of image matching and the principle of color separation. According to color separation between standard images and inspected images
the template matching is processed respectively in each pair of separated color images with sequential similarity detection algorithm(SSDA). Then the two images are spatially registered more rapidly and accurately by a series of operations such as reciprocating
zooming and revolving based on template matching data. The experimental results illustrate that the efficiency and accuracy of the image registration algorithm are related to the choice of templates and matching areas and can be improved respectively above 30% and 35% compared with conventional methods to satisfy the requirement of quality inspection of precise printing and to apply to other rapid image registration processes.
