The tolerance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell to H

was investigated via durability curve
polarization curve and cyclic voltammetry tests with different concentrations of H

. The durability test reveals a relat
ionship between the amounts of H

S introduced into the anode resulting in the same degree of performance loss and the H

S concentrations
then a reasonable threshold of H

S concentration in H

of 0.2×10

was evaluated. It can be seen from the durability curves that the adsorption of H
2
S on Pt is accumulative
thus the fuel cell performance decreases after a long period of exposure to H
2
S even if the concentration of H
2
S gets less than 0.2×10

. It is costly to maintain that the cell performance just is controlled by concentration
so periodic recovery measurement ought to be taken as well. Two methods
CV oxidation and air purging
are adopted to recover the fuel cell performance after H
2
S exposure
and the performance recovery reaches to 97% and 95% respectively
especially
the latter one is relatively exercisable.
