A computational fluid dynamics(CFD)based system identification approach was used to model the outlet water temperature control system of a hot and cool water mixture bank. A recursive square method for parameter estimation was embedded in the commercial CFD software
FLUENT
for on-line parameter estimation of the virtual control system. The result shows that the method proposed can estimate the parameters of the control system without the limitation of physical experiments
the sample time is determined by the time step while the computation time of CFD does not influence the real-time performance of parameter estimation. The present approach is viable for controlled systems involving fluid flow and heat transfer.
