Numerical simulation was performed to study the effect of interior structure of multi-deck display cabinets on the flow characteristics of refrigerated air curtains. The temperature and velocity distributions as well as the cooling load were analyzed with different interior structures. The results show that the presence of the inside shelves is helpful to the flow stability of the cold air curtains
and the Richardson number that guarantees the flow stability is more extensive. The influences of two geometry dimensions(the vertical distance between the neighboring shelves D
v
and the horizontal distance between the discharge grille and the front edge of the shelves D
h
)were also studied respectively. The results indicate that D
v
affects the inside temperature distribution significantly
and the temperature differences between neighboring shelves increase with the flow direction of the air curtain. As H/D
v
increases
the tempe
rature distribution is more uniform but the overall average temperature changes slightly. D
h
influences the flow direction and the entrainment of the air curtains greatly
and then it has great effect on the cooling load but affects the inside temperature distribution slightly. It seems that the performance of the air curtains can improve when D
h
/b
0
is from 0 to 0.5.
