A new type of transmission-roller enveloping end meshing worm drive is proposed in order to enhance the loading capacity
transmission accuracy and efficiency of worm. According to the principle of differential geometry and gear meshing
the coordinate system is established
the worm tooth surface equation is deduced
and the formulas for calculating the meshing parameters such as normal curvature
lubrication angle
entrainment speed and rotation angle are derived. The influence of main design parameters of worm on the meshing performance is studied. The results show that: the number of simultaneous meshing pairs of single-section worm with worm gear reaches 5
which indicates this new type of worm drive has high loading capacity; and its maximum lubrication angle is over 89°
with good lubrication performance. A reasonable range of parameters is provided for subsequent optimal design of worms.
