To evaluate the fatigue reliability of complex structures under random loads
a complex structure was treated as a series system composed of many units
each containing only a fatigue site
and a fatigue reliability model for complex structures was established based on the dissimilar-dimension interference model of fatigue reliability. The model was directly built at the system level without assuming independence of failures. Furthermore
the fatigue reliability evaluation of a train bolster was taken as an example to display the method and the process of fatigue reliability evaluation for complex structures. The results indicate that the fatigue reliability calculated by this new method considering the statistical correlation of failure among multiple fatigue sites in a complex structure under random loads is less conservative than using traditional methods
and the fatigue reliability of the bolster is about 0.90 in 30 years of service.
