To study the freezing behaviors of droplets on different hydrophobic surfaces in various environmental conditions
the copper-based hydrophobic surfaces with different contact angles were prepared by self-assembly method
and the freezing behaviors of droplets were observed experimentally. The influences of various factors such as contact angle
cold surface temperature
ambient temperature and humidity on the freezing time were analyzed. Experimental results showed that the contact angle was reduced due to the change of wettability in the cooling process. The freezing time increased with the contact angles
cold surface temperature
ambient temperature and humidity. Based on the phase change process and energy conservation principle in the freezing progress
a one-dimensional mathematical model of the droplet was established to calculate the freezing duration of the droplet in different experimental conditions. Comparison showed that the calculated results were in good agreement with the experimental data
with a maximum difference less than 15%.
