In order to investigate the effect of indirect non-thermal plasma(INTP)on composition and functional groups of diesel particulate matter(PM)
oxygen was used as the gas source of non-thermal plasma reactor with dielectric barrier discharge and a test bench for the treatment of diesel PM by using INTP technology was built up. A thermo-gravimetric analyzer
a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and a microgram balance were used to investigate the effects of non-thermal plasma on the composition
functional groups and quality of PM. The results show that the composition of PM changes obviously after the treatment of INTP. The proportion of volatile matter falls to 48%-71%
and solid carbon accounts for an increase to 29%-52%. The characteristic temperatures and apparent activation energy of PM both decrease after INTP
so INTP has the ability to make PM easier to be oxidized at a lower temperature and improve the oxidation activity of PM. After the treatment of INTP
the alkyl functional groups on the PM surface are reduced
and the newly formed oxygen-containing functional groups and aromatic rings enhance the PM oxidation activity. The removal mass and rate of PM is 7.91-26.732 mg and 40%-80% respectively after INTP treatment.
