Contribution Ratio of Methanol to HC Emission of a Gasohol Fueled Spark Ignition Engine
The emission rate characteristics of methanol and hydrocarbon(HC)were investigated on a JL368Q3 gasoline engine when fueled with methanol/gasoline blends with the methanol fraction of 10%
20% and 85% in volume
respectively. The effects of exhaust temperature and methanol fraction on the emission rates
and the contribution ratio of methanol on HC emission were then quantitatively studied. Experimental results show that the blending ratio of methanol has little effect on its emission rate
and the rate is less than 8 g/kg for all the fuel blends and it decreases exponentially with the increasing engine speed and exhaust temperature. The emission rate of HC is one grade higher than that of methanol and is higher than 40 g/kg when the engine fueled with the M10 blend. For all the tested fuel blends
gasoline is the main source of HC emission
and methanol contributes less than 8% on HC emission.
