A new flux expansion nodal met hod was developed to solve t hree2dimensional
multigroup neut ron diff usion equations in hexagonal2- geomet ry. The met hod expands t he
int ranodal homogeneous flux dist ributions in analytic basis f unctions for each energy group . In
order to improve t he nodal coupling relations
a new type of nodal boundary condition was
proposed
which simultaneously requires t he continuity of bot h t he -ero2 and fir st2order moment s
of partial current across t he nodal surfaces. The response mat rix technique was used for t he
iterative solution of t he nodal diff usion equations
which greatly improves t he comp utational
efficiency of this met hod. The numerical result s of several benchmark problems show t hat t he
multiplication factor and nodal power s can be predicted accurately. Moreover
t he maximum error
of the nodal powers is less than 1 % for all t he two2dimensional benchmarks.
