M10 met hanol2gasoline f uel blend contains 10 % met hanol and 90 % gasoline in volume.A 368 PFI gasoline engine was used to investigate it s performance and emission characteristics when f ueled wit h M10. The unburned CH3OH and CH2O were measured by GC 2010. Compared wit h gasoline operation
M10 engine gives the same power wit h a higher thermal efficiency. Un2 der all operating conditions
HC and CO emissions of M10 engine are lower . However
the level<br />of NOx emission is comparable to t hat of gasoline operation. M10 engine emit s more met hanol and formaldehyde. Af ter t hree2way catalytic converter
the regulated emissions of CO
HC
and NOx are of t he same order of magnit ude as t hose of gasoline engine
and CH3OH and CH2O can be converted to near -ero level .
