Experiments were conducted to investigate thermal decay in an underfloor plenum under different inlet air conditions and heat sources located in the test room on the plenum. The results show that the air temperature distribution in the plenum was not uniform for typical cooling case
and the air temperature in the plenum rose with the distance that the inlet air traveled. Moreover
lower rates of air flow caused more non-uniform air temperature distribution in the plenum
and the change of inlet air temperature had small effect on the relative air temperature rise in the plenum while the effect of room heat sources on the thermal decay in the plenum was significant. In addition
the ratio of temperature difference between supply air and inlet air in the plenum to the temperature difference between return air and inlet air was 18%-33% for the non-adiabatic slab in our experiments.
