In order to avoid the resource inefficiency of all-participated cooperations in amplify-and-forward cooperative communication networks
a new relay selection scheme is proposed. A threshold for relay selection is introduced to minimize the outage probability and then relays below the threshold are excluded in turn from the cooperation so that their released resources can be reallocated to other relays to improve resource efficiency. The proposed scheme has low computation complexity and low system cost since the threshold is only determined by the number of the selected relays
the average channel state information and the signal-to-noise ratio
and can be given before transmission starts with no real-time updating. Simulation results show that the proposed relay selection scheme outperforms the conventional schemes in outage behavior.
