A Pelton-type two-phase expander was presented to replace the throttling valve in domestic CFCs/HCFCs refrigeration systems. An impulse twin-arc blade impeller with compact and simple structure was designed and a prototype expander-generator unit was manufactured. Experiments were conducted to confirm the feasibility of the expander in the domestic refrigeration system using R410A. The results show that the expander ran reliably under the testing conditions. In addition
the recovery work and isoentropic efficiency of the prototype were up to 2 477 J/kg and 32.8% in the range of 13 100-15 310 r/min
respectively.
