an adaptive technique for unstructured grids is proposed. The spring analogy method is introduced and the details about vertex spring and segment spring are discussed. Then
a new method of grid adaptation based on segment spring analogy and the corresponding adaptive procedure are proposed and applied to the problems governed by the one-dimensional convection-diffusion equation
the two-dimensional linear parabolic equation
and the Euler equations. A better distribution of the grid nodes is obtained
and the numerical errors of these problems are significantly decreased. Especially
for the two-dimensional unstructured grids concerned in these problems
overlapping of the grid elements is avoided.
