A new bridge type high temperature superconducting(HTS)fault current limiter(FCL)applied to AC power system is presented
where two coils
made of HTS tapes
serve as the main parts
and they are paralleled and both dotted terminals are unconnected. The FCL exerts no influence on power system in normal operation due to the small HTS resistance and induced voltage of each coil. When short-circuit fault occurs
one of the coils quenches and the current flowing through this coil is reduced to decrease the influence on the induced voltage of the other coil. The design parameters of the FCL for a given AC power system are determined
and the simulation and analysis by PSpice are completed to verify the FCL design. A comparison with the power system without FCL shows the rapid response of the bridge HTS FCL and desired limiting effect. The first peak value of short-circuit current is reduced to 35.36%. The influences of current parameters and coils parameters on current limiting performance are discussed.
