The temperature distribution of the sample-die system during plasma activated sintering(PAS)process was investigated theoretically and experimentally. For the experimental measurements
the electrical conductive graphite and non-conductive alumina samples were used. The results show that a radial temperature gradient exists in both the graphite-die and alumina-die systems
and that the temperature in the sample gets higher than that in the die in the temperature range of 200-800 ℃. Moreover
at the same temperature
the temperature gradient in the graphite-die system is larger than that in the alumina-die system. With increasing distance between measuring point and sample center
the radial temperature differences in both the systems increase following a parabolic trend
which agrees with the theoretical analysis. And the radial temperature difference exhibits a parabolic increase tendency with increasing temperature.
