In order to improve the interface compatibility between poly L-lactic acid(PLLA)and Hydroxyapatite(HA)
octadecyltrichlorosilane(OTS)is used as a coupling agent to modify the surface of HA by a silanization reaction
and corresponding OTS-HA/PLLA porous composites are prepared by thermally induced phase separation method. Results from scanning electron microscopy show that OTS modification improves both the distribution of HA particles
and the interface compatibility between HA and PLLA. The porosities of OTS-HA/PLLA porous composite are greater than 90%
which well meets the requirement of bone regeneration materials. Also
results of in vitro cells cultivation show no negative effects on the growth of BMSCs(bone mesenchymal stem cells). The cells can well adhere and grow on the surface
and excellent cell spreading and proliferation are observed. The OTS-HA/PLLA porous composites show good biocompatibility.
