A transformer protection algorithm based on the characteristic of excitation inductance is unable to apply to Y-△ transformer
if the current inner the △ windings is difficult to measure. Thus an improved algorithm for evaluating inner △ windings via measured current outer △ windings is proposed
which makes it feasible to use on both single-phase transformer and Y-△ three-phase transformer. Simulation results verify validity and effectivity.
