Combining the semi-empirical particle-wake enhancement turbulence model with the second-order moment two-phase turbulence model based on the particle kinetic theory
a new second-order moment two-phase turbulence model considering particle wake effect is established to simulate dilute gas-particle flows in a horizontal channel and a swirling sudden-expansion chamber. The simulation results of this new model
in comparison with the turbulence model ignoring particle wake effect
show better agreement with the experimental ones
and the particle wake effect enhances the gas turbulence. Moreover
the simulation for dense gas-particle flows in a downer indicates that for strong two-phase interaction
the particle wake effect is capable of enhancing both gas fluctuation and particle turbulent fluctuation.
