To achieve the design reuse of complex structural components
a method for the initialized design knowledge model is investigated. The defining scheme for functional feature partition is proposed via mapping function to the structural feature from top to bottom of the partition tree. The design process planning for functional structures at all levels is studied by constructing design matrix of functional structures. The modularized design knowledge representation for functional structures at all levels is also discussed with object-oriented method. The proposed method is applied to the design knowledge model of gasoline engine block to confirm the effectiveness for knowledge reuse.
