A novel distributed high efficient energy-saving coverage protocol(CEP)of wireless sensor networks is proposed
in which under the premise that the performances of networks are guaranteed the work cycle of each node is divided into many rounds and in each round the node schedules work mode itself according the residual power after negotiating with its neighbor nodes. CEP can ensure that nodes are in active work mode as few as possible while ensuring energy is uniformly distributed over these nodes and others are in sleeping mode. Simulation demonstrates that when the nodes are deployed randomly and uniformly in sensor networks and satisfies the coverage requirements
CEP can extend the lifecycle of networks more about 200% than that of LEACH protocol
and computation complexity is decreased by 10%. The protocol can be used in related application areas such as node deployment
