The electrochemical coupling of water electrolysis and benzene hydrogenation reaction on platinum carbon electrode is studied. The influence of the reaction temperature and the cathode potential on benzene hydrogenation are investigated. The results of electrolysis experiments show that the current of benzene hydrogenation increases as the mass fraction of benzene increases
and the increasing tendency slows down when the mass fraction of benzene reaches 25%. The current of benzene hydrogenation continuously increases as the reaction temperature increases. The activation energy of hydrogenations reaction is 32.88 kJ/mol and the activation energy of hydrogen evolution reaction is 18.08 kJ/mol. The hydrogenation current reaches a peak value at the cathode potential -1.0 V and then has a slight drop.
