Focusing on the problem that the detection complexity was high in vertical-Bell labs layered space-time system
a novel simplified maximum likelihood algorithm was proposed. The probability distribution of interference and noise is approximated by the Gaussian distribution. Search region is drastically reduced by changing the number of candidate transmit signal vectors according to transmit antenna number and modulation size. Near optimum performance is obtained with low complexity. Simulation shows that with 4 transmit antennas
16-QAM modulation
the new algorithm's bit error rate is close to the optimum value of the maximum likelihood detection algorithm with 0.016 2 times of its complexity.
