To estimate the normal dynamic parameters of joint surfaces theoretically
a new fractal model for these parameters is established following the fractal contact theory. It is revealed that the normal dynamic parameters
such as the contact stiffness and the contact damping
depend on the normal contact load
material properties of rough surface
and fractal parameters. The varying laws between the normal dynamic parameters and their effect factors are simulated numerically. The investigation indicates that the contact between two rough surfaces actually only occurs at the asperities
thus the real contact area makes up only a small section of the apparent area. The real contact area may increase by decreasing the roughness of surfaces and increasing the normal load. And the relationships between normal dynamic parameters of joint surfaces and fractal parameters get strongly nonlinear. The normal load obviously affects contact stiffness
but slightly affects contact damping.
