A new approach to optimum design of the two-dimensional blade curves of centrifugal fans was proposed in this study. In the present method
the orthogonal design and the three-dimensional viscous flow field computation were used to determine the optimum controlled deceleration flow in impellers and the blade curves. The blade of a high-efficiency fan was redesigned without changing its design point parameters and the profiles of its hub and shroud. The computational results for the whole fan show that the fan efficiency is improved clearly in most of the operation range
and the total pressure is increased at the design and low flow rates. Moreover
unlike the original fan
the possibility of the motor burning caused by overload can be reduced greatly. In addition
the analysis on the flow field indicates that the static pressure distribution of the flow in the impeller is more uniform and the separation region is eliminated. These results imply that this reliable method may be suitable to the design of the two-dimensional blade curves of centrifugal fans.
