By determining the components of steel-based surface composites
the wear resistance of the composites with different formulas was obtained by wear test. The formulas were optimized by orthogonal test
and the optimum components were obtained: about 40%(volume fraction)of SiC particles in 80 μm dimension
about 1.5%(volume fraction)of Cr powder in 60 μm dimension
and EPS particles as the remainder. The analysis indicates that the wear resistance of the steel-based surface composites can be obviously improved by Cr powder
and significantly influenced by SiC content and granularity. Investigation to the microstructure of the surface layer shows that the wear resistance of the steel-based surface composite can be significantly improved with the formula.
