An inverse power algorithm to obtain all electromechanical modes for large-scale power system is proposed. The influences of governor
motor load and excitation regulator in the generator without PSS on electromechanical oscillation modes are ignored to establish an order-reduction system. The electromechanical oscillation modes of the reduced-order system correspond one to one with that of the original system
thus the order reduction exerts no effect on the number and the related generators of the electromechanical oscillation mode. These modes are regarded as the approximation of electromechanical oscillation ones of the original system
and all original system electromechanical oscillation modes are traced by inverse power algorithm. The results of four typical operation modes in Northwest Power Grid in 2009 indicate the validity and potentiality.
