The mechanism of temperature oscillation in a loop heat pipe was analyzed on the basis of the instability of two-phase flow at the entrance of a condenser
and the results show that the instability of two-phase flow is one of the sources of temperature oscillation. The experimental results indicate that temperature oscillation occurs as the heat load of the loop heat pipe system is in a range of 12-60 W while the system can operate stably when the load is outside the range
matching the theoretical analysis. Further
the severity of temperature oscillation of the loop heat pipe increases obviously with the increase of charging ratio of working fluid. In addition
compared with the loop heat pipe with methanol as working fluid
the system using acetone with lower latent heat has a smaller range of heat load in which temperature oscillation exists and the severity of temperature oscillation decreases clearly.
