whose dry friction and wear behaviours are investigated by a ring-disk tribology tester. Low carbon steel is chosen as the counterpart. The test is conducted at room temperature and relative humidity of 23%~25%
the sliding speed and the normal pressure are taken as 0.5 m/s and 20~60 N for 0.5 h. The results show that the coefficient of friction and wear ratio of Ti
3
SiC
2
increase first and then decrease with the increasing normal pressure.The peak values of coefficient of friction and wear ratio appear when the normal pressure gets 30 N and 40 N
respectively. The effect of normal pressure on
the wear behaviours of Ti
3
SiC
2
is analyzed by scanning device. When the pressure is low
the main wear mechanisms are found to be slight abrasive wear caused by the desquamating of Ti
3
SiC
2
particles and rheologic behavior of worn surface; when the pressure is higher than 40 N
the main wear mechanisms are found to be slight scratch and light adhesive wear of the oxidation film.
