A new tolerance analysis method for complex mechanical systems by ideal mating surface is proposed. The actual mating surfaces are abstracted as the ideal mating surfaces. The position and orientation of these surfaces are expressed by the normal unit vectors from the design information in the condition of rigid body. Stacking up the normal unit vectors of every part in local coordinate system
the normal unit vector of end part in the foundational coordinate system can be solved by the homogeneous transformation matrix(HTM). Taking a grinding wheel dresser as the example
the tolerance analysis results verify the design accuracy index by 3 000 simulations
which gets closer to the real station in tolerance analysis considering both dimensional tolerance and form/position tolerance.
