Al-2.15%Mn alloy was fabricated by stirring casting. Its microstructure
strengthening mechanism
and friction and wear behavior were investigated. The results show that: 1)The as-cast microstructure of Al-2.15%Mn alloy is composed of α-Al matrix with Al
11
Mn
4
and Al
6
Mn compounds; 2)The hardness of Al-2.15%Mn alloy gets 60% higher than that of pure aluminum because of deposition strengthening by Al
6
Mn; 3)The impact fractures exhibit plastic morphology for pure aluminum and quasi-cleavage morphology for Al-2.15%Mn; 4)The worn mass losses of both pure aluminum and Al-2.15%Mn alloy under lubricating condition are greater than that under dry condition because combination of corrosion and mechanical wear in wet friction condition generates furrows and corroded pits on sample surface
while adhesive
wear in dry friction condition makes worn chips flake off the sample surface; 5)Al-2.15%Mn alloy shows smaller friction coefficient and better wear resistance than pure aluminum in both wet and dry wears.
