A localization method using rotary antennas to generate radio interference(RRIPS)is proposed to meet the requirements of low power consumption and accurate localization in wireless sensor networks(WSN). The anchor in WSN is equipped with two rotary antennas that emit the same single frequency signal to generate Doppler shift and radio interference. Then
the signal strength indication(RSSI)received by the sensor is utilized to obtain the ranging information for localization. Finally
the sensor gets multiple sets of RSSI with the anchor in different locations to calculate its own position when the anchor moves to different locations. Comparisons with distributed localization method based on radio interference(DRIPS)show that RRIPS is of low complexity and energy consumption and only relies on radio transceivers without extra communication with anchor. Simulation results and comparisons with DRIPS show that RRIPS improves 1.5 m accuracy when SNR is 10 dB.
