Performance of a Compression Heat Pump for Waste Heat Recovery from Gas-Fired Boiler Flue Gas
To address the issue of mismatches between flue gas parameters and heat pump cycle working fluid characteristics caused by varying loads during the actual operation of gas-fired boilers
the performance of a compression heat pump for waste heat recovery from gas-fired boiler flue gas was investigated. A heat pump system was constructed as part of the flue gas waste
heat recovery system of a 7 MW horizontal natural gas vacuum boiler. By combining experimental and process simulation methods
the effects of the heat pump refrigerant flow rate
pressure ratio
and boiler load on system performance were studied under boiler loads of 100%
75%
and 50%. The research results show that at 100% load
as the refrigerant flow rate increases
the waste heat recovery capacity of the heat pump initially increases and then plateaus
the coefficient of performance (COP) decreases from 7.08 to 5.94
and the system efficiency first rises rapidly to 106.8% and then declines gradually. As the high-side pressure increases
the COP and efficiency of the heat pump first drop to 1.97 and 101.1%
respectively
then rise rapidly to 8.09 and 107.2%
respectively
and subsequently fall to 5.56 and 106.4%
respectively. Changes in boiler load affect the refrigerant flow rate at which the waste heat recovery capacity reaches its peak
as well as the maximum values of COP and efficiency. Under boiler loads of 100%
75%
and 50%
the optimal operating conditions for the heat pump are as follows:refrigerant flow rates exceeding 3.40
2.30
and 0.68 kg·s
-1
respectively
and high-side pressures exceeding 1020
900
and 820 kPa
respectively. This study provides a reference for the efficient operation of compression heat pump waste heat recovery systems for gas-fired boilers.
